We lived in a fort for three days!

Well, actually in a grubby hotel next to the lighthouse in the fort city of Galle.

Unfortunately, trumpet playing was NOT allowed. We made do.

Cool old car out front of one of the many many hotels that were too expensive for us. Another was called the Amangalla. Wow. We tried to watch the Superbowl there in their library, so we did enjoy some luxury for an hour or so at 4 in the morning.

The lit up mosque in the sunset to the right of our hotel.

Right next to the lighthouse is a sandy spot outside the fort walls where the locals swim. During a break in the rain, we joined them and met Kumar, a young jeweler from a local family. We are going to his house for dinner tonight.

Hooray! Kate took a picture! This is the skirt I went swimming in. There are many tacky tourists prancing around half naked (sadly, many embarrassingly obnoxious Russians, might need to change my company name...), but it is best to cover up and blend in a bit better with the customs. This is the corner of the fort wall. The water below is lovely and clean and strangely reminds me of Rhode Island.
